Los Nettos uses its multiple connections to both commercial and non-commercial networks to provide advanced network services for research, education, health care, economic development as well as traditional uses of the Internet in the greater Los Angeles area. Disciplines such as astronomy, climate science, genomics, telemedicine, bioinformatics, high-energy physics, engineering, cybersecurity, music, cinematic arts and business all benefit from the rich connectivity provided by the regional network.
Through partnerships with Corporation for Education Network Initiatives in California (CENIC), Pacific Wave and others, Los Nettos connects its members and associates to the state regional network CalREN, the national network Internet2, federal networks such as Energy Sciences Network (ESnet), the NASA Research and Education network (NREN) and the Defense Research and Engineering Network (DREN), and international networks such as those found on the Pacific Wave exchange. Los Nettos peers extensively with commercial networks and purchases transit services from multiple providers to ensure resiliency of the network and provide a robust network topology.
Los Nettos has deployed a state-of-art optical network capable of providing multiple channels, each of which can support 100 gigabits per second and beyond. This network will support dynamic provisioning of network resources for researchers and faculty interested in high-performance data transfers, software-defined networking, and experimentation with next-generation technologies. It also supports dedicated wavelengths.
